Are you the type of person that sees guns as just a tool to be used during a hunt? What if, instead of spending all your money buying new guns, you would rather spend that money on additional hunting time instead? Well, this is the list for you.
I’m not the kind of guy who will ever try to talk you out of buying a new gun. However, by buying just the four guns on this list, you can hunt any animal in the world. That’s right: with a collection of just four guns, you can hunt everything from squirrels to elephants.
Before we start, I recognize that one piece of criticism leveled against these choices is that they may be a “jack of all trades, but a master of none.” Of course there are other choices that may be better at doing a particular task when compared to the guns on this list. However, the point of this list is to avoid specialization and present a minimum number of guns to accomplish a maximum number of hunting tasks.
Remington Model 870 12 Gauge Shotgun
A good shotgun is an important part of any hunter’s gun collection, and a 12 gauge Remington Model 870 is a perfect choice for a hunting shotgun. Not only is the Remington Model 870 very reasonably priced and extremely reliable, but it is super versatile as well. If you purchase a 3″ model with interchangeable choke tubes, you can use both 2 3/4″ and 3″ shells and hunt basically any type of bird: dove, quail, chukar, grouse, pheasant, turkey, duck, geese, etc.
The Remington 870 is also a great choice for hunting small game, such as rabbits and squirrels. With buckshot it is a deadly gun at close range on big game such as deer and feral hogs.
Finally, you can also easily change out the barrel and install a rifled barrel with better sights, turning it into a great slug gun capable of hunting big game at slightly longer ranges.
