The multi-purpose machine gun M60 was developed in the USA and is used by many armed forces.
In the United States, has already been unsuccessfully tried in the Second World War to rebuild MG42 and switch to the shooting of the .30-06 Springfield Patrol. For this reason, a new weapon was developed from the 1960s, which was largely based on the captured weapons of the Wehrmacht. For example, the belt feed, which consists of punched and pressed pieces with plastic fittings, has been slightly modified by the MG42. There are also some functions of the FG 42.
A modified form of the M60 was used in the Vietnam war and was since then an integral part of the equipment of the US Army. In time the M60 got the nickname “The Pig” because it sounds very similar to the “Grunt” because of the deep, sonorous sound. Another reason for this name is the poor handling of the weapon when shooting in a non-lying position (jerking like a pig under the arm)
